Diana Krall

Back in 2003 I had my first encounter with the West Coast. Subsequently I ended up in Tofino, the most idyllic place in the world on Vancouver Island, Canada. It was there that a dear old lady, once mayor and amateur jazz singer, introduced me to Diana Krall. Not in person but on a dvd player in her home in the woods. Live in Montreal was an introduction to a beautiful articulator of the jazz idiom. I just love ballads anyway and it has been my joy to work on the piano transcriptions to re-create the luscious backings which interweave to bring out the melancholy of a mature ladies voice. "Maybe You'll Be There" is a favourite of mine. Pure joy tinged with sadness.................
